The Seattle Sounders played essentially a flawless game, even if the referee chose not to see it that way. Raul Ruidiaz scored a goal in the 46th minute and helped setup additional goals in Saturday’s game against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Sounders 3-1 win put them back in the lead for the MLS west and in striking distance of the supporters’ shield.
The Caps would get a single goal when the a phantom red card was called on the Sounders Gustav Svensson in the 68th minute. The referee went to the VAR instant replay and to the confusion of all, he let the penalty in the box stand, only downgrading the red to a yellow. Former Sounder Fredy Montero would score the easy penalty kick.
