The Huskies could not stop the CJ Elleby and the WSU Cougars sending Washington to .500 with a 12-12 season. Wazzu’s Elleby scored 34 points on 9-16 shooting and a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line. The 6’6 sophomore would add 10 rebounds and 3 blocks as UW had zero answers to stop the Cleveland High star.
UW did have a strong start with a a 15-4 run to take a 26-25 lead. But the Cougars went into overdrive and took the lead back.
After going down by 10 early in the game, UW fought back to get within 1 point at 45-46, before dropping a 14-5 run where Elleby scored 10 points.
“Honestly, the career high doesn’t really matter to me. If we had lost and I had had the same amount of points I would have been pretty upset,” Elleby said. “But we got the win and that’s what matters. We protect the house. The Huskies came in and obviously it is a big game for Pullman and the Cougars. We got the job done and that’s what matters.”
The Huskies’ Isaiah Stewart scored just 11 points; far below his 17.7 average per game. The Dawgs did get help from both Naijah Carter and Jaden McDaniels who scored 18 and 16 respectively, unfortunately as has been the case most of the conference schedule, the team only managed 9 assists on the day showing far less ability at the point than one would hope for with a team with this much talent.
