Seattle Sounder striker Will Bruin scored in the 19th minute to get Independence Day started off right for the Rave Green and would find his brace later in the 59th minutes as they put down an angry and frustrated Colorado Rapid team. The Rapids got a 40th minute goal from Sam Nicholson, but found themselves plagued by infighting, poor sportsmanship, and self-destructive behavior keeping them from presenting a real challenge for the rest of the game.

Stefan Frei would come up big, as he usually does, showing why he is one of the best in the game. The match could have been 2-2 if not for the Sounder keeper. Late in the 2nd half, Coloardo’s Shkëlzen Gashi was set up with an open look on goal. Gashi snuck in at the end of a counter attack and took a shot certain to find net, but in came Frei with yet another fingertip save—reminiscent of the 2016 MLS Cup—to deny the goal and preserve the game.

Colorado earned 6 fouls for unsporting behavior or time-wasting is horribly displaying a lack of cool. It was July 4th last year that saw the Sounders defeat this Colorado team to turn their season around. The Rave Green would go 13 games in a row with out a loss on their way to a second MLS Cup appearance.
