Unbeaten Sounders drop Real Salt Lake 1-0

Posted by

The Seattle Sounders are still undefeated after 5 games as they beat Real Salt Lake 1-0 on Saturday night. The franchise best 4-0-1 mark gives them 13 points, just 3 points behind LAFC for the Western Conference lead.

Christian Roldan would get the ball rolling with a volley from the right wing to an awaiting Nico Lodeiro. Nico slipped a left footed volley in the 18th minute into the net for the game winner.

RSL had been a bit of a boogie man for the Sounders recording 3 straight shutouts against the Rave Green until tonight. Stefan Frei would turn the tables as he recorded his 2nd straight clean sheet in a row (3rd of the season). The indomitable Frei is putting on another clinic of a season that has seen him allow just 3 goals in 5 games.

Will Bruin started in place for the normal striker Raul Ruidiaz. Raul has a heel contusion sustained in last weeks match with Vancouver and needed the rest. The offense seemed to still operate quite well. The Sounders had 11 shots with 3 on target. They also controlled the overall time of possession 56% to 44%.

The Sounders will travel to Colorado on Wednesday for a match-up vs the Rapids before coming home to host Toronto FC next Saturday. The games get even more difficult with a pair against LAFC. So buckle up Sounders fans, the ride is going to get bumpy!
