The Philadelphia 76ers traded 2 picks to move up in the NBA draft to select the University of Washington’s Matisse Thybulle. The 22 year old defensive guru is a 2X winner of the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. Matisse averaged 3.5 steals and 2.3 blocks per game and is a stifling presence in the mold of a Draymond Green or Bruce Bowen.
Matisse has the honor of being just one of only two players since 1992 to average at least three steals and two blocks in a season. He hit 191 three-pointers at an acceptable 35.8 percent clip across 135 career games. He’s become more efficient inside the arc, where he usually takes only quality looks. But ultimately, Thybulle is looked to with a specific role on the 76ers to help them overcome just missing the championship on a Kawai Leonard, lucky shot.
