The Houston Astros are on top of the world, riding a now-nine game winning streak. Seattle starter Taijuan Walker couldn’t hold back the tide, letting up eight runs over 3 innings. With an 11-4 win, the Astros continued their dominant start to the season in style.
There were a few bright spots for the Mariners, Nelson Cruz had another multi-homer game. Logan Morrison and Mike Zunino joined in with solo home runs of their own, showing signs of life for their bats.
No shortage of power whatsoever, as the teams combined for a record nine home runs over the nine inning contest. It’s a record showing for Minute Maid Park, and certainly was enjoyed by the 24,435 attending.
Things have not been going the Mariners way to start this season and definitely this series as well. But even so with the slow awakening of LoMo’s bat, and other pitchers looking good(Taijuan is still a mystery), I feel there’s still lots of room for optimism. It’s May 2nd; the season starts now.
Collin McHugh – 7.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ERs, 2 BB, 3 Ks. (4-0)
Taijuan Walker – 3.0 IP, 9 H, 7 ERs, 1 BB, 2 Ks. (1-3)
SSU Player of the Game
Nelson Cruz – Another Multi-Homer game by Nelson, again proving his worth in the lineup and payroll.
