Sounders win 1st leg of CONCACAF vs Guadalajara 1-0

Sounders win 1st leg of CONCACAF vs Guadalajara 1-0

The Sounders picked up a home win vs Guadalajara this evening making life easier for themselves. With the 1-0 win, Seattle is in the driver’s seat to take the series.

Dempsey who was out for the loss to LAFC was kept in reserve just for this game and boy did it ever pay dividends. A 78th minute goal by Clint Dempsey (on a Harry Wingo assist) gave the Rave Green the win and an opportunity to advance in the Champions league.

This game got a bit chippy as Chivas (Guadalajara) came out late for the team introductions (considered a no-no in soccer). This lead to a chorus of boos from the crowd and it played out on the field. 5 yellow cards were issued, including one to Roman Torres and oddly enough the Guadalajara goalkeeeper Cota. The 2 game series concludes next Wednesday in Guadalajara, Mexico.
