Sounders score early to cruise to 2-0 win over Rapids

The Seattle Sounders stormed off to a strong start, scoring in the just the 5th minute of the game. Kelvin Leerdam cleaned up a Raul Ruidiaz shot attempt for his 2nd goal in 2 games. Just 3 minutes later, Ruidiaz got himself a goal on a really nice give and go from Victor Rodriguez. Ruidiaz has now scored 5 straight regular season games in a row.

After going up 2-0 the Rave Green would dominate the time of possession for the 1st half and make the Colorado Rapids look – as Steve Zakuani would say in the broadcast—”look like boys amongst men.”

The Rapids would readjust their game plan at half time and would accumulate chances on goal and make goalie Stefan Frei work for his clean sheet. But ultimately it would be a Sounders squad that would get 3 more points and put Sounders fans in a state of elation as just 2 games in, they look like they are in postseason form.

The Sounders now have 6 goals in 2 games, a feat that took them 7 games to achieve last year. By the end of the game, the Rapids would have more total shots than the Sounders, but the time of possession was a ridiculous 63% for Seattle. It is still early in the season, but right now, the Sounders look like the cream of the crop in the MLS Western Conference.
