Nine games ago, the Seattle Sounders’ record was 2-9-2. After toiling at the bottom of the table, the Rave Green just pummeled the LA Galaxy 5-0 to move withing a hair of playoff contention with 10 games left. The Sounders are now 7-0-2 in thier last 9 games with a franchise record 9 wins in a row.
Forward Harry Shipp had a goal and an assist to power the Sounders to the win.

“We’ve had a run of very good games, but we’re not going to view it like that,” Shipp said. “We’re not going to get complacent. The confidence is there. We’re trying to fight for as high a playoff seed as possible. For us, we’ve done a pretty good job the past two months of doing that.”

The Galaxy were without their stars leading scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic and designated players Giovani dos Santos, Jonathan dos Santos, and Romain Alessandrini, but that didn’t matter much to Rave Green who had been nursing injuries all year.
Chad Marshall, Cristian Roldan and Raul Ruidiaz also scored, while Stefan Frei had his 5th shutout this season.

The last time the Sounders scored five goals was in a 5-0 win at home against Dallas on July 13, 2016.
Seattle previously had five-game winning streaks in 2010, 2013, and 2014. Its previous nine-game unbeaten streak was a 6-0-3 run in 2011.
