Sounders get 1st point of the season, earn tie vs Sporting

The Seattle Sounders finally found net in the 2018 season tying Sporting KC 2-2 on Sunday. The feckless Sounders had opened the season 0-3 putting them in a huge hole in the Western Conference the tie gives them their first points on the season, however, they remain the only winless team in the MLS.

KC would strike 1st in th 34th minute with an Ilie Sánchez strike. But the Sounders Will Bruin would respond just before halftime with a goal that breaks their 315 minutes goal-less streak. Christian Roldan would add another goal, but Sounder killer Graham Zusi would find an equalizer to give the Sounders just 1 point for the tie.

Former UW Husky Christian Roldan and midfielder and former Seattle U star Alex Roldan would become the 7th brother combination to play on the field together in the MLS.

“It is a tough place to play so we’re happy with going home with a point,” the younger Roldan, a onetime star for Seattle University, said afterwards in quotes supplied by the league. “Hopefully, this will be something that will get us going.”

Osvaldo Alsonso made his return as a sub. His last couple seasons have been plagued with injuries, but it is always amazing to see how his leadership and drive keep the Sounders in every game. With leadership bringing composure to the team missing in the 1st 3 games, it is no small coincidence that the level of play increased with Ozzie’s return.

“Especially here in Kansas City, it’s tough to play,” said Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso, who played his first minutes of the season as a second half substitute. “We let the three points go, but one point is good. We have to focus now on Minnesota (next Sunday) and be happy with the point.”
