Sounders earn 10th straight post-season appearance with 2-1 win over Orlando City

The Seattle Sounders FC have never missed the MLS playoffs in their 10 years of existence. With just 3 games left on their schedule, the Rave Green took down Orlando City 2-1 to earn their 10th straight post-season berth.

The Sounders would score first just 3 minutes into the game with a volley from Victor Rodriguez off an arching assist by Kelvin Leerdam. Rodriguez had been playing center midfield ont he day and finished with a goal and an assist on the night.

Handwalla Bwana would be the recipient of Rodriguez’s assist as he would beat a defender and nail a goal on the inside of the near post for the game winner.

Orlando City would make a game of it as a blatant offside (which wasnt whistled) would score in the 2nd half. The Sounders however would endure winning their 3rd game in a row (12 of their last 14).

Seattle looked listless in the late stages of the game and actually were outplayed. Orlando held the advantage on possession (54 min – 46 min) and had 15 shots to the Sounders 9. Regardless, the win is 3 points and the Sounders now have 3rd place in the Western conference, jumping the arch-nemesis Portland Timbers. With 2 games left against Houston and San Jose, the Sounders take aim at LA FC for 2nd place. If they can grab that precious spot, they will earn a bye in the 1st round of the playoffs.
