Sounders drop season opener to expansion LAFC 1-0

Injuries and fixture congestion attributed to the Seattle Sounders not looking their best. And not being at their best was enough to lose to the expansion LAFC 1-0.

Diego Rossi would score in the 11th minute for the fastest goal scored by an expansion team in MLS history. Nico Lodiero and Harry Shipp would see good opportunities fall though to expert defense by LAFC.

The Sounders dominated the game in every area but goals, as they had 22 shots on goal to LAFC’s 5. Furthermore, they would have 7 shots on target to LAFC’s 1–the one they happened to score on. The Rave Green would also hold advantage with control of the ball for over 60% of the time.

But at times, the Sounders looked like the team that had been fatigued by several CONCACAF games–which they just had in a 2 game series last week vs Santa Tecla. The extra games put them at a disadvantage to the fresh LAFC. This could potentially be a problem going forward as the Sounders will see more CONCACAF games coming up next week clouding their games schedule and potentially continuing to fatigue their frontline players.
