Sounders come up short in 4th MLS Cup appearance, lose 3-0 to Columbus

Mark this one up to the Columbus Crew just being the better team on the day as they took our our best XI in the Seattle Sounders by a score of 3-0.  The Crew exploited defender Alex Roldan and midfielder Jao Paulo with matchups they just could not handle defensively.

There were question as to whether coach Brian Schmetzer played the proper lineup for this game, but too many of the Rave Green players came out flat-footed to make a difference. This was a bit of a downer as there is a better team in the Sounders that was not on display Saturday night.

“I absolutely think that this game was a failure,” said Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer, whose squad missed an opportunity to become the fourth MLS team to win back-to-back titles. “I think this individual game was not a good performance by our club, not up to the standard that we set for ourselves, that I set for myself. It’s my job as a coach to make sure that our players are prepared, and that they have the tools to be successful, and so this performance was not a good performance from the Seattle Sounders. It’s certainly not a good way to end our season.”
