Silvertips fall to Portland 5-2

The Everett Silvertips knew this was going to be tough as they dropped game 1 of the WHL 2nd round to the Portland Winterhawks by a score of 5-2. The high-scoring Winterhawks came to Angel of the Winds Arena and light up the scoreboard. To be fair they had been doing this all year; however, many expected the lockdown defense of the Tips would stifle the visiting team.

Portland has boasted standout forwards and 4 NHL draft picks. But it was the Tips who won the US division and homefield advantage with the best hockey goalie (under 20) in the world in one Carter Hart and the Tips career points leader in Peter Bajkov.

Fists were flying just minutes into the game and unfortunately so were the Winterhawks goals as they went up 2-0 in the 1st period on goals by Jake Gricius and Conner MacEachern goals.

The Tips Matt Fonteyne and Garrett Pilon would get Everett back into the game with back to back goals. But sadly for the home town bears it would go south quickly as 3 more goals put the game out of reach for the Tips.

Game 2 begins Saturday at 7 at Angel of the Winds Arena.
