The Sounders slogged through one ugly game plauged by fouls and sloppy shooting.   The ugly match culminated by a red card on Gonzolo Pineda had the markings of a disaster.

Luckily for the SOunders, Obafemi Martins came up big for the win!

What Worked

Obafemi Martins scored yet again.   The sly, sommersualting, seraphin of strikers fired a shot at the 39th minute to score the games only goal.

What Didn’t Work

Gonzolo Pineda  caught Dynamo Ricardo Clark in the midsection with a high boot. Referee Ted Unkel initially pulled out a yellow card, but switched it to red. It was the Sounders’ third straight game in which a red card was shown.

Dempsey did not look like himself. Maybe he’s still recovering from the injury that sent him home from the United States camp, but he had numerous heavy touches that short-circuited Sounders breaks and generally struggled to find the game. But that’s the thing about Dempsey, he only needed one really good touch to make a difference and he did what he had to do on Martins’ goal.

SSU Player of the Match

Osvaldo Alonso played 70 minutes and looked very much like his old self. Even though the Honey Badger clearly wasn’t at full strength, the trademark tackles and ability to control the midfield was still there.
