Great news for Seahawks! Marshawn Lynch (Beast Mode), the heart and soul of the offense gets an extension with a healthy raise. As reported by the Seahawks Twitter:
“Seahawks sign RB (Lynch) to 2-year extension through 2017 season,”
The internet blew up with the news; fans are abuzz as the greatest question going into the offseason was “will Lynch return? or wont he?” We now have our answer.
Although the Seahawks have yet to release the details, it is expected that Lynch will receive $12 million in 2015, with an additional $12 million per year for 2016 and 2017. Coming off an amazing year, Lynch was an integral factor in getting the Seahawks to the Superbowl in 2014.
- Beast Mode scored a career-high 17 total touchdowns–13 rushing.
- He rushed for 1,306 yards in the regular season, plus 318 yards in three postseason games.
- Lynch had 102 yards rushing and a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
Beast Mode had been making $7 million a year; this represents a common theme among the Pete Carroll/Dan Schneider regime. Players who perform at a high-level, generally get rewarded e.g. Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Doug Baldwin, etc…
The continuity that Beat Mode’s return brings, will bolster the 2x NFC champs run for a 3rd Super Bowl appearance. With the “Lynch-pin” of this team in place, the window remains open.
