Former Florida Gator was the 3rd pick in the 2012 draft. Set a club record of HRs by a catcher last year, and the young backstop was tied for 3rd in HRs by all catchers in 2014. Despite only being 23 years old, Zunino is known for his solid defensive fundamentals, and the Mariners pitching staff has shown a lot of trust in the budding star. Zunino ranked 2nd in the AL and 4th in the Majors with a 3.18 catcher’s ERA. Widely considered a foundational player…now he just needs to work on that batting average.
Last Year:
131 Games played: .199 AVG, 22 HRs, 60 RBIs, 158 Strikeouts

SSU Projections:

120 Games played: .240 AVG, 22 HRs, 65 RBIs, 140 Strikeouts
Random Fact:
Zunino had more extra base hits than singles in 2014.
