Seattle Mariners: Getting to Know James Paxton

Position:

Starting Pitcher (left-handed)

Biography:

Hailing from British Columbia, Paxton was the Mariners 4th round draft pick in 2010.

The Canadian pitched for the University of Kentucky. During his sophomore season, Paxton worked his way into the Wildcats as a starting pitcher, finishing the year 4–2 with a 2.92 ERA. Paxton pitched a complete game shutout versus Ole Miss in the SEC tournament, but due to injury was not able to compete during the College World Series run.

Last Year:

ERA         W-L         SO         WHIP

3.04         6-4         59         1.20

SSU Projection:

Paxton shot out of the gate running (and dominating) racking up wins in 2013; however, injuries derailed the beginning of the 2014 campaign. Spending much of the time on the DL and on rehab assignments, Paxton still came back to the Mariners in August and performed nicely.

We expect him to dominate in Spring Training and take the 4th starter position—breaking camp on the major league roster. Due to injury history, expect Paxton to be on a pitch out the entire season.

ERA         W-L         SO         WHIP

3.25         12-8         130         1.29
