The rumor right now is that the Seattle is one step closer to being accepted for an expansion franchise. Various outlets have reported that the Oak View Group (OVG)–the group behind the renovation of Key Arena–has filed for 38 web domain names. The registered names relate to 13 proposed team names that could be used for a future Seattle NHL team. These names include:

  • Seattle Emeralds
  • Seattle Evergreens
  • Seattle Firebirds
  • Seattle Kraken
  • Seattle Rainiers
  • Seattle Renegades
  • Seattle Sea Lions
  • Seattle Seals
  • Seattle Sockeyes
  • Seattle Totems
  • Seattle Whales

Notably missing is the “Metropolitans” the name of the 1917 team that would become the first ever American team to win the Stanley Cup.
