Redhawks Roundball Roundup: Seattle U gets burned on trip to the desert

After coming out to a hot start in the 1st half, the Seattle University Redhawks somehow let the game slip away in the final seconds as Grand Canyon University’s Joshua Braun would sink 2 excruciating free throws with 15 seconds left to win the game for the Antelopes. Freshman Mataj Kavas missed a 3-point attempt with :04 left but the entire last 50 seconds saw the wheels come off the Redhawks offense.

The Antelopes  Joshua Braun and DeWayne Russell each had 19 points to lead Grand Canyon. The Antelopes shot 35.2 percent from the field (19 of 54), but hit 9 of 31 from 3-point range.

The shooting for Seattle was not that much better as the Redhawks shot 46.2 percent from the field (24 of 52), including 8 of 24 from long range. Kavas finished with 16 points off the bench to lead Seattle U (9-10, 1-3), with Brendan Westendorf adding 15 points

This was a tough loss for the Redhawks. Senior Brendan Westendorf and freshman Matej Kavas gave it their all, but we award the player of the week to forward William Powell.

The 6’6 senior led the team again in rebounds (9) and assists (6). All year long, Powell has done the dirty work so that others could get the the glory. The workhorse is in need of recognition, so this week, we give him kudos.
