Rave Green lay an egg, without star defenders, Sounders dropped 3-0 by Columbus

It had to happen at some point, and maybe we thought it would go on for a bit longer, but the Seattle Sounders 2 game winning streak came to an end, losing 3-0 to the Columbus Crew. The Crew would get the drop on the Sounders early and would not look back as they dominated in all aspects of this game.

In the 10th minute, a Federico Higua(Columbus Crew SC) right-footed shot from outside the box to the bottom left corner. This would be followed up by a 21st minute goal by Justin Meram and then for good measure Kamara would add the 3rd and final goal for the Crew in the 59th minute. Both Meram and Kamara would log their 8th goals on the season.

Where was the defense?

This is not the defense that we wanted as Sounders fans. Star defender Chad Marshall was not in Columbus for this game. The center back, who was named to the MLS team of the week, was kept home with a hamstring injury. This turned out to be a disaster as his replacement in Alfaro looked to be out of position too many times to be effective. The Captain Brad Evans and Panamanian national team member Roman Torres were both late replacements, but it seems that their entries were too little too late as a depleted backline could not hang with the Crew.
