The Seattle Sounders’ midfielder Nico Lodeiro was out due to a lower back injury which led to an unnerving 2-0 loss to DC United. While the Rave Green was able to launch quite a bit of offense, many if not most of the shots were not on target.

DC’s Lucas Rodriguez scored in the 14th minute and Wayne Rooney gave an assist to Frederic Brilliant in the 54th to put the game away for United.

The Sounders had a golden opportunity in the 7th minute with a breakaway led by Brad Smith. Brad took launched a shot that took off and missed its mark. Apart from that the Sounders just couldn’t get anything going with out Nico directing traffic.

The Sounders hold a precarious position of 2nd place in the MLS Western Conference but only have a 1 point lead over Minnesota who earned a point in a draw with Portland. Only 3points separate 3 teams from the #2 spot that Seattle owns. There are only 2 games left in the season including one against Minnesota on October 6th. A meltdown could see the Sounders lose their #2 seeding if not perhaps lose out on making the playoffs.
