Mariners win series vs Chi-Sox as they look to rebound after All-Star game

The Seattle Mariners were on a path to win a 100+ games this season, but then a terrible thing happened. They went a stretch of a week and a half where they only won a couple games. They lost a +19 run differential and were facing a deficit for this second half. While run differential isn’t the only determinate of teams strength, it is a red flag for a team who was on top of the world just weeks ago. Luckily, the M’s had the opportunity to face the downtrodden Chicago White Sox.

Wade LeBlanc grabbed his 6th win in a fantastic 7 and 1/3 gem of a game. LeBlanc allowed just one run to outlast the Chi-Sox’s James Shields who had a decent outing of his own. LeBlanc had 10 strikeouts and allowed just one walk as he is showing a resurgence and having perhaps his best year in his 10 year career.

Nelson Cruz would help LeBlanc win the day as he had a sac fly in the 1st inning to score Dee Gordon and a single in the 8th for his second RBI.

Chalk this up as “same old story” as Felix Hernandez did enough to keep the M’s in the game, but he offense went missing.  The King went 3 innings of decent ball but fell apart in the 4h giving up 4 runs. Unfortunately, the M’s couldn’t muster any more than 2 hits and zero runs to show for it this day. The King went 5 innings with 7 strikeout and just 2 walks. If not for that 4th inning, the M’s were in this game.

The bats finally came alive especially in the form of one Ryon Healy.  Healy hit a pair of 3 run dingers and gave Maroco Gonzales his 11th win. Healy was the engine that ran a 5 run 1st inning then was the capstone to the game with an 8th inning homer—his 20th on the season.

Marco Gonzales would throw 6 and 1/3 innings allowing just 4 hits and 2 runs. He was able to strike out 6 while offering just 2 walks. The former Gonzaga Bulldog is now 11-5 on the season and looking to be one of the more significant trades by GM Jerry Dipoto Marco now has a 4 game winning streak.
