Well well well, the Mighty Mariners took a series against the neighbors to the north in the Toronto Blue Jays. The M’s actually looked pretty decent for a change as they chug along on a lost season.

8/16 @ Toronto                L              7 – 3

Speaking of annoying, in the 3^rd inning of the 1^st game Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Randal Grichuk hit back-to-back homers. This game was brought to us by the number “7” (as they would say on Sesame Street) Toronto would abuse Wade LeBlanc for 11 hits and 7 runs over 7 innings for his 7^th loss. The offense would struggle to get consistent hits to put runs on the board. The M’s had 7 hits were scattered throughout the game but could only manage a measly 3 runs for their efforts.

8/17 @ Toronto                W           4 – 3

Kyle Seager got an M’s record homer at the most timely moment. Tied 3-3 in the 8^th inning, Kyle nailed a 372 foot dinger to put the M’s ahead. The homer was Seager’s 190th, the most ever by a Mariners infielder. Alex Rodriguez hit 189 homers in his seven seasons with Seattle.

Keon Broxton had a couple of sacrifice flies early in the game driving in Austin Nola in the 2^nd and Daniel Vogelbach in the 4^th.  Nola would also get in the hit parade with a solo shot in the 4^th inning.

The Mariners used 7 pitchers who combined for 9 innings of 9 hit ball. While that is a lot of hits, they allowed just the 3 runs and ultimately that is all that matters. Anthony Bass was the beneficiary of the win on the evening.

8/18 @ Toronto                W           7 – 0

Yusei Kikuchi threw a 2 hitter for his 1^st career shutout. The rookie won his 5^th game by striking out 8 and retiring the final 14 batters in order. Tom Murphy hit a 2 run homer, while Seager, Nola, and Broxton all added solo shots to run up the score.

“It being a bullpen day yesterday for the team, I felt like I was able to step up,” Kickuchi said through a translator. “I haven’t been getting the results I’ve wanted to and I felt like I was good for the team today, so I was proud of that.”
