It is kind of hard to win a game when you only have 9 players, on Sunday that is exactly what the Seattle Sounders had to contend with. The game started fine as just 46 seconds in, Jordan Morris curled a left-footer past the goalie. The play came off a poor back-pass by LAFC back Eddie Segura.

After an equalizer goal by LAFC, the fireworks continued as a fight in the 16th minute saw Christian Roldan get ejected. As a scuffle broke out, LAFC’s Eduard Ateuesta gave a performance of a lifetime as a light brush across his face by Roldan imitated a death scene from Game of Thrones. The Emmy went to Eduard as the referee bought his histrionics and issued a red card on Roldan, thus putting the Sounders down a man.

The Sounders essentially had to “park the bus” and pray for the best. They played some of their best defense this year. Yielding field position and the attack, the Sounders held off 21 shot opportunities by LAFC.
Late in the game, the Sounders Kelvin Leerdam was given a red card, but this time it was well earned as he clearly got beat and did his best to intentionally knock down the opponent who had a clear shot on goal. It was a testament to the Sounders fortitude that they overcame going down to 9 men and still hanging on to earn a draw against the best team (an darn good cheating team) in LAFC.
