Left Field / Second Base

Rickie comes to Seattle as a free agent after a long career with the Milwaukee Brewers, having been their starting second baseman for most of the past decade. The second overall draft pick from the 2003 draft and an All-Star in 2011, Rickie’s skills have deteriorated with age, but he continues to be a potent hitter against left-handed pitching. He is expected to platoon in left field with Dustin Ackley.

Last Year:

121 Games played: .274 AVG, 8 HR, 29 RBI, 3 SB

SSU Projection:

120 Games played: .275 AVG, 8 HR, 25 RBI, 3 SB

Produces a similar line to his limited action 2014 where he platooned at second base with Scooter Gennett, serves as a reliable pitch hitter who doesn’t get in the way of Ackley.

Random Fact/Quote:

Long known for his long dreadlocks, something that certainly helped get him voted “Sexiest Baseball Player” by Cosmopolitan Magazine in 2009, he cut them off before joining the Mariners. When asked why, he said he had grown tired of the hair style and that “it was just one of those things.”
