The Seattle Sounders and the San Jose Earthquakes had a lot on the line today as both teams were vying for a playoff spot and the Sounders’ superhero Jordan Morris found a way to get his team the victory in a 1:2 battle with a San Jose defender and goalie as he chipped in a game winner with time running out for the 1-0 win.

Both the Sounders and the Quakes were playing a man short as the Quakes Tommy Thompson was sent off for flicking his cleat back into Xavier Arreaga. Not long after Arreaga was sent off for his second yellow for a foul on Danny Hoesen just outside the penalty box, forcing the contest to finish 10-v-10.

For most of the match, the Sounders were on the defensive. Sitting on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, San Jose were aggressive. They shot the ball 23 times with 10 of those being on target. Sounders superstar goalie Stefan Frei repelled each and every attack including 7 blocked shots of his own.
The win was necessitated as Minnesota FC overtook the Sounders earlier this week for the #2 position in the MLS playoffs. This game of catch-up ties the Sounders with Loons and next week will be a match-up for a winner taking all as far as the #2 position in the Western Conference.
