Wazzu went into their “Friday Night Light’s” battle with the University of California ranked number 8th in the nation thinking nothing can go wrong. They left that night wondering where did they go wrong! The University of California outplayed and out-coached the Cougs as Washington State was dealt with their first loss of the season, knocking them out of their top ten ranking. The “Speed Defense” of the Cougs held their own for the first half but couldn’t hold it any longer as the California Golden Bears pulled away in the second half. The Cougar’s offense looked lost from their first play of scrimmage. Quarterback Luke Falk proved he was no longer a Heisman trophy candidate as he threw 5 interceptions and was sacked 9 times.
Next up the Colorado Buffaloes come to Pullman for homecoming. Game time is 7:45pm Cougar Nation. If you can’t make it to the game, watch it on TV. If any game on their schedule could be a trap game, this game vs. Colorado could, so let’s come out and root on our Cougars in any way possible.
Here are three observations I had on the game:
- Should we panic after the Cougar’s last performance?
Absolutely we should. If we can’t find a way to come back after that last performance, we might be looking at a 6-6 season. All our opponents must do is watch the game film of our loss to Cal to see how they can beat us. Coach Leach has his hands full to fix that problem before Colorado comes to town this Saturday night.
- Can Luke Falk figure out a way to work behind an offensive line that has given up 31 sacks in 7 games?
I’ve been talking about this all season. We are all surprised that Luke is still playing on a weekly basis from how the offensive line is playing. Most quarterbacks would have gotten hurt and been out the entire season for how bad this line is. Luke Falk is one tough hombre but he is partially at fault. He needs not hold on the ball so long. He needs to run from the pocket when the pressure is there. Can Coach Leach convince him of this or will Coach Leach make changes to the offensive line. California exposed the weakness of our line and how long Luke likes to hold onto the ball this past Friday night, unfortunately Luke Falk ran when it was too late. This Saturday vs Colorado we should expect to see some changes.
And the snow keeps piling. Luke Falk gets sacked for the ninth time on the night, causing a scoop and score for the Bears. 36-3, Cal.

Does a 48 for 107 conversions on 3rd down cut it for a top 25 team?
If WSU is to continue to win, they need to convert on 3rd downs. With a less than 50% conversion rate, it is surprising they are where they are at. The Cougs have their “Air Raid Attack” so they should not have to be constantly having 3rd down issues. Perhaps using running back Jamal Morrow on a more frequent basis will increase their percentage of conversion and not on some lame shovel pass. They have 5 more games to prove that.

It should be an interesting week as WSU prepares for Colorado. Hopefully their practice is behind closed doors as we all get excited for homecoming weekend. Will WSU rebound from their performance and ignore all the surrounding distractions? My feelings are yes as we all get excited for this Saturday night. Kickoff is at 7:45pm in Pullman. We will all be watching and rooting for them.
We're almost SOLD OUT for 🏈 vs. Colorado for Homecoming!
