93rd minute defensive lapse ends Sounders win streak at 9

The Seattle Sounders had one of the most epic win streaks in sports with 9 straight wins. In the 93rd minute, a back pass to goalie Stefan Frei was improperly handled and then intercepted. The 1:1 situation saw the Philadelphia Union score in extra time to win the game.

The Rave Green had the distinct advantage with shots on goal at 16 to 8. Unfortunately, 10 of those were off target. Every aspect of the game infact favored the Sounders with the advantage on possession, pass accuracy, and corner.

Things started looking up towards the end of the game as the Union’s Jack Elliott earned his second yellow forcing Philly to play a man down, but it would be that blown pass by Frei that was intercepted by Fabrice-Jean Picault that would haunt the Sounders this day.

With a Portland Timbers win today, the Sounders drop to 6th place in the MLS West. While still above the thin red line, the they still have their work cut out for them.
